“How might different groups from various cultural, ethnic, gender, or demographic backgrounds interact with one another? If emotions are a universal language, can they transcend cultural or language barriers through an unspoken understanding?”
Eudaimonia
"Eudaimonia" (human flourishing, happiness, and well-being in Greek) is an investigation into a new form of expression and shared experience by visually reflecting the vibrations of the mind on the surface of the water. With the integration of neurofeedback technology, this participatory work will decode the audience members' mental states into visuals and sounds in real-time.
Depending on participants' interaction with one another, the custom-built brainwave iOS App paired with NeuroSky brainwave headset will generate brain data visualizations. The sounds, a form of vibrations, are generated by 'Attention' and 'Meditation' values received from brainwave headsets. The level of 'Attention' modulates the amount of panning, and the level of 'Meditation' modulates frequency range from 40 to 100. The more the user focuses, the faster the panning of the sound is. The more the user meditates, the lower the frequency is.
After five to ten minutes of experience, participants can share their brain data visualizations on Instagram. Blue color represents 'Meditation' values, and the red color represents 'Attention' values. The brainwave visualizations from the "Eudaimonia" can be found in this link.
